General Information

During the 8th semester, students are required to select one of the five (5) available Streams and one of the two (2) Study Tracks offered within the selected Stream.

Each Stream comprises six compulsory courses. In addition, students must select at least three courses from the eight elective courses offered within their chosen Study Track. These three elective courses must all be selected from the same Study Track (Study Track 1 or Study Track 2).

The distribution of the compulsory Stream courses and the elective Study Track courses between the 8th and 9th semesters may vary depending on each student's individual course selections.

Stream 1 focuses on the measurement, positioning within appropriate reference systems, and geometric representation of the geographic space and its changes across different spatial scales. The six compulsory courses of the Stream cover state-of-the-art technologies and techniques for the acquisition and processing of geodetic and photogrammetric data, as well as computational methods for analysing and modelling their associated errors.

Study Track 1: provides advanced knowledge in positioning, applied and engineering geodesy, photogrammetry, and remote sensing, making extensive use of modern technologies and advanced methods for the analysis of geospatial measurements. Particular emphasis is placed on the surveying, digital recording, and geometric documentation of the built and natural environment, as well as of human activities, at large scales.

Study Track 2: focuses on the observation, analysis, and representation of the Earth's geometry, gravity field, and dynamics, together with their temporal variations over terrestrial, marine, and oceanic environments. Emphasis is placed on modern satellite-based geodetic techniques, physical geodesy, and geophysical survey methods.

Stream 2 focuses on the collection, management, processing, visualization, and exploitation of geospatial information. The six compulsory courses of the Stream cover key areas of Remote Sensing and Cartography, as well as the use of modern technologies such as the Internet and Machine Learning in Geoinformatics. They also address contemporary applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), urban spatial information management, real estate valuation, and land policy.

Study Track 1: focuses on advanced methods for spatial data acquisition and processing, aligned with developments in Geodesy, Remote Sensing, and Photogrammetry. These are combined with environmental planning, cadastre, and land policy issues.

Study Track 2: focuses on geospatial data visualization, spatial infrastructures, and the management of land, marine, and aquatic environments. It integrates knowledge from cadastre and land policy, marine spatial data acquisition, and thematic cartography, with environmental impact assessment topics.

Stream 3 focuses on spatial planning and environmental management. The six compulsory courses address: (a) spatial planning and land policy at urban and regional scales, including policies aimed at local and regional development, and (b) environmental management under conditions of climate crisis. These thematic areas are supported by courses in spatial data analysis and visualization.

Study Track 1: focuses on spatial planning (urban planning, regional planning, mobility), incorporating geographical perspectives. It addresses contemporary challenges such as climate-neutral, smart, and resilient cities, land–sea interactions, and approaches such as participatory planning, governance, and strategic planning. It also includes transport systems and urban mobility.

Study Track 2: focuses on environmental management, including climate change adaptation, environmental planning, environmental impact assessment of projects and programmes, and the management and nexus of natural resources. It is supported by remote sensing methods, modern land administration tools, and operations research techniques.

Stream 4 focuses on transportation engineering, specifically on the design, operation, management, and evaluation of transport systems and infrastructure. The six compulsory courses cover: (a) transport system design, (b) road infrastructure design, (c) operation and management of road infrastructure, and (d) collection, processing, and analysis of transport data.

Study Track 1: focuses on the design and construction of transport infrastructure. It includes topics such as road engineering design, environmental impact assessment, cartography, and specialized transport systems and infrastructure topics.

Study Track 2: focuses on strategic and tactical transport planning, as well as modern methods and tools for transport data collection and analysis. It includes transport infrastructure systems design, spatial and urban planning, mobility, building information management, real estate valuation, and operations research, with a strong emphasis on data-driven transport analysis.

Stream 5 focuses on the knowledge and skills required for the scientifically sound and rigorous development of hydrological and hydraulic studies. In particular, it addresses river delineation and river regulation and training works, the planning, implementation, and management of land reclamation projects and hydraulic structures, the management and utilization of surface and groundwater resources, water resources protection, as well as wastewater treatment and its safe discharge into surface receiving water bodies for environmental protection. It also emphasizes the use of digital geospatial data and Geoinformatics tools for solving water resources engineering problems.

Study Track 1: focuses on the study and management of hydraulic engineering works.

Study Track 2: focuses on data collection and management, as well as environmental protection.
