Procedure for Exemption from the Maximum Duration of Studies Due to Certified Disability and Exceptional Extension Beyond the Maximum Duration of Studies for Health Reasons

Submission of applications for exemption from the maximum duration of studies and for an exceptional extension beyond the maximum duration of studies on serious health grounds.

Students who enrolled in the academic year 2015–2016 or earlier are hereby informed that, in accordance with the applicable legal framework, they are exempt from the maximum duration of studies and are not automatically deleted from the student register, provided that they fall within one of the following categories and submit the relevant application:

1. Exemption from the Maximum Duration of Studies Due to Certified Disability

Students who have a certified disability rating of at least 50% and wish to make use of the provision for exemption from the maximum duration of studies must submit:

  1. the relevant Application (attached Application for Exemption from the Maximum Duration of Studies), electronically signed via gov.gr; and
  2. one of the following supporting documents:
  3. a medical assessment issued by a Health Committee of the Disability Certification Centre (KE.P.A.); or
  4. a medical assessment issued by one of the Supreme Medical Boards of the Army (A.S.Y.E.), Navy (A.N.Y.E.), Air Force (A.A.Y.E.), Hellenic Police or Fire Service, certifying the disability and specifying its percentage; or
  5. presentation or submission of a disability card, in accordance with Article 106 of Law 4961/2022 (Government Gazette A΄ 146). In this case, the School Secretariat verifies that the student is registered in the Digital Register of Persons with Disabilities, pursuant to Article 105 of the same law.

The application and the required supporting documents must be submitted electronically to the School Secretariat, at the following email address: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., no later than 30 October 2026.

Important clarification:

If the disability certification is valid for a limited period and no new assessment is submitted, the period during which the disability was certified will not be counted towards the maximum duration of studies.

The extension is granted for a period proportionate to the severity of the health-related circumstances.

During the extension period granted on serious health grounds, student status becomes inactive, except with regard to student welfare benefits, and all procedures associated with student status are suspended.

  1. The relevant application (attached Application for Exceptional Extension), which serves as a solemn declaration and must be electronically signed via gov.gr.
  2. Supporting documents issued by a public authority, substantiating the grounds cited by the student and specifying the period during which the serious health-related circumstances apply, on the basis of which the extension beyond the maximum duration of studies is requested. Examples include medical assessments issued by a public hospital and bearing the signature of: (i) the Coordinating Director of a clinic or laboratory within the National Health System (ESY); (ii) a person lawfully performing the duties of Coordinating Director of a clinic or laboratory within the National Health System (ESY); or (iii) a University Professor or Associate Professor, in accordance with the provisions governing the certification of medical conditions under Joint Ministerial Decision F.151/17897/B6/2014 (Government Gazette B΄ 358), as amended and in force, and at the discretion of the authorised signing physician.
